Why do we celebrate Memorial Day?
Memorial Day weekend is an opportunity to take some time to recognize our military and fallen heroes – from the American Revolution through Iraq & Afghanistan.
General John A. Logan, the commander-in-chief of the Union Veterans Group, created the holiday just after the Civil War. Historians debate why Logan chose May 30th. Some believe it was because the date landed on a rare date that didn’t coincide with a civil war battle. Others believe it was because Logan wanted flowers to be in full bloom across the country.
The true meaning of the holiday embodies the spirit of independence and sacrifice. The last weekend in May is also a fantastic time to kick off the season of sun and fun!
Camping is one of America’s greatest pastimes. If you own a campervan or conversion van, you know how easy it is to pack up and take off for a few days of relaxation and recharging. Camping is about the experience, not the destination! A road trip’s best memories are made with the company you bring along.
Many popular campsites require you to book far in advance for holiday weekends such as this one. If you haven’t already booked your site, try some of these last minute spots.
