For those of you who are ‘die hard’ RV’ers, winter is just another opportunity to find a cool new campground to explore! Winter motorhoming can be incredibly peaceful and less crowded than spring and summer months. Depending on where you go and where you have coming from, planning a winter campervan trip can be a great reprieve from less desirable weather. Not sure what to do about your kids being home from school for 2 weeks? Plan a family RV trip and enjoy a new destination together! Whether you plan on bringing the whole gang or flying solo, these winter campgrounds are not to be missed!
Yuma, Arizona
Location: Yuma, Arizona is located in Southwest Arizona just over the Colorado River.
At one time, Yuma was a Wild Western town. During the Gold Rush, settlers came through Yuma on their way to California by stagecoach. The famous film, 3:10 to Yuma (1957 and 2007) depicts the infamous outlaw, Ben Wade and embodies the spirit of the West!
Today, Yuma makes our list due to its comfortable winter temperatures and rich historical attractions. Some of the top things to do are : visit Castle Dome Mines and Ghost Town, enjoy Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, check out the Camel Farm and a variety of museums dedicated to military and Native American history.
South Padre Island, Texas
Location: South Padre Island is a resort community located on the Barrier Island of the Texas Gulf of Mexico.
South Padre Island is popular with those who love water sports! Fishing, jet boat skiing, sailing, whale and dolphin watching are some favorite visitor activities on the island. The average January high reaches 68 degrees, making it the perfect reprieve from cooler northern climates.
Some places to visit include: South Padre Island and Birding Center, Schlitterban Waterpark, Gravity Park Amusement Center, and South Padre Island Dolphin and Research Center.

Santa Barbara, California
Location: Santa Barbara is situated in the southern region of California’s Central Coast.
With over 300 days of sunshine each year, Santa Barbara’s pristine beaches and quaint Mission town is a great place to spend the winter holidays. The Santa Ynez Mountains provide the perfect backdrop to the gorgeous California coastline.
Enjoy Refugio State Park and its iconic palm lined beach, perfect for surfing and other water activities. Jalama Beach is another popular Santa Barbara Area destination, located in Lompoc, Ca. Motorhoming in Jalama Beach is convenient due to the parks grocery store and grill.
If you want a more mountainous vacation, stay in El Capitan Canyon and enjoy the ancient sycamore trees as well as horseback riding and other outdoor activities. El Capitan Canyon is a quick 15 minutes from downtown Santa Barbara as well.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Location: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is about a 2 hour drive north from Charleston and about 74 miles south of Wilmington, North Carolina.
With temperature highs around 60 degrees, Myrtle Beach is the perfect place to take a break from frost and snow and enjoy the coast. Winter time is slightly quieter than the bustling summer months. Kids and adults will enjoy the beaches many entertainment attractions such as Family Kingdom Amusement Park, Pirate Adventures, Myrtle Beach Speedway, Patriots Point Naval Museum, Ripley’s Aquarium and much more. Shopping, dining and relaxing will keep you occupied for days.
Phoenix & Scottsdale, Arizona
Location: Arizona
Phoenix and Scottsdale have fabulous weather during the months of November through March. With temperatures in the high 60’s and 70’s, you have no need to bring your winter parka. Enjoy hiking Camelback Mountain, strolling the Desert Botanical Gardens, Golfing, Shopping and much more.
Some must see attractions include: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West, Doliphinaris (an outdoor Dolphin Marine Park), Talking Stick Casino and Resort, Butterfly Odyssey (large indoor butterfly sanctuary), PInnacle Peak and many other destinations.
