The weather is cooling down, but winter rain and snow aren’t quite here yet. Luckily, if you have a conversion van, a fall tailgate/cookout is the perfect weekend get together for you and your buddies!
Tailgating is a uniquely American tradition, going back as far as the Civil War. Today’s pregame cookout has come quite far from merely bringing a six-pack and a pizza. People take their tailgate party’s seriously!
Fortunately, owning a conversion van will help you take your pregame blowout to the next level!
Pro Tailgaters Tips
Throwing a proper sporting event barbeque can be a lot of work! No one wants to be so busy putting together the party that they miss out on all the fun.
Here are some tips to help you maximize the fun at your next tailgate bonanza:
1. Get the App. There is seriously an app for everything! This will help you make lists for supplies, drinks, snacks – basically everything you need for a proper cookout. There’s nothing worse than forgetting the charcoal upon arrival to the parking lot!
2. Check the stadium/facility rules before you get there. Make sure glass, propane or sterno cans are allowed on the premises.
3. Cook as much as you can before arriving. Doing as much work before the cookout as possible will help you spend more time relaxing with friends and checking your fantasy team stats prior to kickoff.
4. Get creative! Are you serving up pulled pork? Use bricks to prop up your pan above a can of sterno. It’s a much easier solution than bringing standing trays.
5. Don’t be shy with the aluminum foil. You will use it for everything from leftovers to reheating.
6. Stay hydrated. Tailgating/sporting events are all day! Freeze water bottles to use for keeping food cool and for drinking later.
7. Don’t forget the condiments! Using a paper 6-pack container is a nifty way to store your ketchup, mustard, mayo, hot sauce, and all the other condiments that put the final touches on that tailgating feast.
8. Repurpose athletic tube sox for beer or soda koozies. Cut off the foot and use the ankle portion to keep your drinks from sweating.
9. Tie colored balloons to your van. That way your buddies can find you in the sea of tailgaters.
10. Keep those hands clean. Need a hand washing station for all of those ribs you’ll be grubbing on later? No problem! Take an old laundry detergent bottle, rinse it out and there you have it.
11. Beat the bugs. Mosquitos a potential problem? Throw some rosemary or sage on charcoals to act as natural mosquito bug repellent.
