Since 1986, Pleasure-Way Industries has been creating top of the line, high quality and innovative motorhomes. Located in Saskatchewan, Canada, the Pleasure-Way plant produces Class B camper vans each year in a highly individualized manner. Contrary to the cost-saving assembly line method of van construction, Pleasure-Way prides itself on their unique method of manufacturing.
Each Pleasure-Way motorhome is given meticulous care and attention. On average, it takes about six weeks to construct each camper van. That’s over 400 man-hours just to finish one!
Steps of Construction
The first step in building a Pleasure-Way camper van begins in the welding/metal fabrication department. A skilled team of fabricators precisely welds tubular steel to create the floors, roofs and sidewalls of the motorhome. The time spent on this first phase of construction exceeds 50 hours per vehicle.
The next portion of construction deals with crafting customized fiberglass to the specific coach. Each portion of fiberglass is individually formed into a mold. It is then sprayed with a paintable gel coat and mixture of resin in order to create the precise thickness necessary for sound strength and structural integrity. The fiberglass is hand rolled to ensure there are no air pockets.
The bonding of fiberglass to the steel components is the superior technique compared to other forms of fastening. A product called Sika Flex is used as a bonding agent. By using Sika Flex as opposed to screws, Pleasure-Way is able to better ensure less entry points for water leaks that are a typical issue with recreational vehicles.
Another standout feature of Pleasure-Way motorhomes is the use of Glasurit automotive paint on all surfaces. Far superior to other gel coat finishes, Glasurit is commonly found on vehicles such as Rolls Royce and Mercedes Benz. Each piece is sanded, primed and painted in order to deliver an outstanding product that shines.
