Purchasing an RV or campervan is an amazing way to take the family on all sorts of exciting and affordable vacations. One of the greatest things about owning a motorhome is the ability to plan a trip – either quick or long – and pack up the family at the drop of a dime!
Regardless of whether you’re a seasoned motorhome enthusiast or just getting started, RV life with a baby presents a whole new element. Fortunately, there are thousands of people like you who’ve successfully gone on RV trips or lived on the road full-time with their baby.

Advantages of RVing with Baby
- RVs and motorhomes are like fully functional mini-homes.Instead of camping in a tent with no sink or couch, your campervan will provide some of the barebones comforts you have at home.
- If it’s just you, your spouse and the baby, a class B motorhome is the perfect size.
- Since babies sleep A LOT, they won’t care about your plans and will actually have an easier time keeping on a schedule as opposed to if you lodged in a hotel.
- Feeding babies in an RV or motorhome is much easier than a traditional car or SUV.

Other Considerations for RVing with a Baby
- Plan ahead for feeding. If you (mama) are able to be the passenger, then regular feedings shouldn’t be a problem. If not, you’ll have to pump or make stops accordingly.
- Be prepared to change diapers in creative places! Have a really handy diaper-changing mat handy – one with a surface that can be easily cleaned with a disinfecting wipe or surface cleaner.
- It’s best to plan your trip somewhere with full access to cell phone service and close enough to a hospital just in case.
- Sunscreen and appropriate clothing for repelling bugs are necessary.
- Plan to stay in an area with less drastic temperature changes.
Car Seat and Child Seatbelt Safety
- Make sure all children are buckled in fully while the vehicle is in motion.
- Check to make sure your infant or toddler car seat is safely and properly installed in your class B motorhome or RV. Ask the manufacturer or dealer for help if you aren’t sure how. Also, go online and familiarize yourself with child car seat laws.
- Remember to thoroughly secure all loose items in your motorhome or trailer. Secure your cabinets and any overhead bins that could have items moving around.
