Are you looking for a mobility vehicle, but not impressed with the lack of space in conventional wheel-chair minivans? Full-sized conversion vans equipped with a lift can be a fantastic option! Greater headroom space, a larger entry area and the ability to fit more than one wheelchair makes these full-sized wheelchair vans very desirable.
And for those with families, a full-sized conversion van will accommodate a larger variety of seating needs for everyone with or without a wheelchair.
Raised Roof:
Who doesn’t like greater headroom? Full-sized van models built on GMC Savana, Chevrolet Express and Ford Tuscany chassis can offer a higher roof. For those passengers who sit taller than 55 inches in their chair, these extra 6 inches can make a huge difference.
Additional Seating:
Families will especially appreciate a full-size wheelchair van. These full-sized conversions can seat up to 4 extra passengers. Do you have two members of your family using a wheelchair? No problem! A full-sized mobility van can accommodate two wheelchairs with ease.
Another benefit to a larger handicapped van is the ability to turn and position wheelchairs with greater ease. Conventional minivans with mobility lifts often eliminate all of the van’s storage space. Not in the case of a full-sized conversion!
Two Lift Options:
- Double Post Lift: This lift has the highest maximum weight rating at 800 pounds. This option gives greater versatility to the passenger in the wheelchair. The wheelchair user is able to sit as the driver or a passenger in the middle or back of the van. This is a great option for those with heavier weight wheelchairs. While it may obstruct additional seating, it allows for the individual to have his or her own accessible vehicle.
- Single Post Lift: The single post lift is a side entry lift. It is a more popular option due to its ability to provide more accessibility from all areas of the van for the wheelchair user. While the maximum weight rating for this lift is only 600 pounds (those with heavier chairs may need the Double Post Lift), it is more versatile because it can be used in a raised roof model or lowered full-sized model.
A Strong and Smooth Ride:
Full-sized conversion wheelchair vans are incredibly safe and a pleasure to drive. They handle very similarly to an SUV or minivan. Take a test drive! Most people are very surprised with the easy handling.
Knowing your loved ones are safe and secure in the case of an accident is a huge relief. The GMC Savana, Chevrolet Express and Ford Tuscany have all received exceptional safety ratings.
