When you hear Mercedes, your mind instantly goes to luxury and refinement. It may also go to unaffordable and expensive as well! Even Janis Joplin wrote about the German luxury vehicle in her song “Lord won’t you buy me a Mercedes-Benz”.
If conversion vans are your vehicle of choice because you like the versatility, ruggedness and luxury all combined into one, then you may be familiar with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
The Sprinter is Mercedes’ full-sized cargo van that can be converted into just about anything you want. The Sprinter comes with a hefty price tag. In fact, luxury conversion Sprinters can be anywhere from $90 to $400k, especially if you’re looking for one with more bells and whistles.
However, the Sprinter’s kid brother, the all-new Mercedes Metris, has recently joined the German luxury brand’s crew. The Metris is smaller in stature and considered a mid-sized van. But don’t be mistaken; it’s not all about size! The Metris conversion van can offer incredible luxury, refinement and European driving dynamics at an affordable price.
Mercedes Metris Conversion Van Specs
The Mercedes Metris is smaller than the Ram Promaster and the Ford Transit, yet more spacious than the Ford Transit Connect. The popular German company is looking to appeal to the mid-sized van customer with this new player. The Metris is lighter, and easier to park and drive than other conversion vans such as the Nissan NV and Promaster.
The Metris has an impressive payload of 2,500 pounds and towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. Two-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engines, which produce 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, through its seven-speed automatic transmission, give the surprisingly quiet Metris a huge amount of power. With a 22 mile per gallon combined city and highway fuel economy, the Metris is also relatively inexpensive to drive.
Aside from having some serious under the hood strength, the Metris drives like a sedan. While not as flashy as other Mercedes, the seating is simple but spacious and comfortable. If you are looking to use your mid-size Metris for transporting children, clients or teams, the three rows behind the driver offer plenty of room.
Entry level Metris’ offer advanced technology, such as Attention Assist, which notices when the driver is weaving in and out of lanes, sending a steaming coffee cup icon to the dash. Crosswind Assist, which will adjust the suspension when high winds are ramped to avoid the vehicle from leaning, is also a standard feature. A new spare tire and jack come with a new Metris, which is great to have and uncommon to find these days on a new vehicle. Higher end trim packages will include leather seating and a rearview camera.
The cargo van starts at $29,945 and the passenger model at $43,495. These numbers are similar to the Chevy Express and Ford Transit. Mercedes Metris conversion vans can be customized with luxury features such as T.V.’s, Blu-ray DVD players, limousine lighting, wood grain and plush leather seating as low as $59,995.
At that price, your dreams of owing a German luxury vehicle are completely within reach!
